Teaching Forced Displacement with Geospatial Technology in Refugee Camps: Lessons from Rwanda and Jordan

Abstract Forced displacement is inherently spatial, with aspects operating at multiple scales. At the individual scale, space shapes a survivor’s experience. regional mediates our understanding of global processes forced and local responses to these worldwide trends. As long as there has been displacement, some form geographic mapping used understand, represent, reason about displacement. In modern times, technology comes in geospatial technologies that can range from displaced person using Google Maps on their phone navigate an unfamiliar environment they migrate home country, powerful information systems (GISs) drive core operations organizations such United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), supporting countries hosting refugees international humanitarian operations.
